I am writing to endorse the Residents First candidates for Marco Island City Council: Teri Sommerfeld, Rick Woodworth, and Dennis Bartolucci.

Public trust in Marco Island’s City government is low, and it is not difficult to understand why. Ongoing budget and audit problems, missed opportunities to use available grant funding, and decisions to move forward without seeking multiple competitive bids have left residents with serious questions. When millions of taxpayer dollars are involved and competing bids are not obtained, people naturally wonder what is really going on.

Restoring trust will require leaders who are transparent, independent, and accountable to residents. I believe Teri, Rick, and Dennis are the three people we need. They have the intelligence, experience, and judgment to carefully examine major expenditures, challenge the numbers, pursue available grants, and ensure the City receives the best value for our money. Competitive bidding should be the rule, not the exception.

I also trust these candidates because they have no conflicts of interest or hidden agendas. They are not running to benefit special interests, advance private business relationships, or gain personally from City decisions. They are running because they care about Marco Island and want to take good care of the community we call home.

Teri, Rick, and Dennis will protect taxpayer dollars, restore confidence in City government, and ensure that the people who live here and whose taxes fund our City are treated as its first priority.
